Duplicate Title Instructions

Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled in Illinois
 
The registered owner of the vehicle must follow these steps:
 
 

1. Fill out the Illinois Duplicate Title Application.  You may obtain title and registration applications by visiting the nearest Secretary of State facility or by calling (800) 252-8980.

        2. You can do one of the following options:

 

• Bring the application to the Secretary of State Facility.

 
                        Time frame to get the title: 4-6 Weeks
                        Cost to obtain: $95
 

 

 

• Mail the application to the Secretary of State Facility.

                        Time frame to get the title: 4-6 Weeks
                        Cost to obtain: $95 

Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled outside of Illinois

The registered owner of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled in.
