What do I need to do with my plates?
The registered owner of the vehicle must not surrender the licence plates. They stay on the vehicle and are disposed of by the towing company. If you have special plates, you can request that they be transferred to a new vehicle. If you choose not to keep your special plates, you must recycle them or destroy them.

Is there anything else I need to do?
You may need to notify the DMV that you sold your vehicle in order to complete the transfer process.
