Duplicate Title Instructions

Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled in New York
 
    The Registered Owner of the vehicle must follow these steps:
 
        1. Download and fill out the New York Duplicate Title Application or apply online.

        2. You can do one of the following options:

 

• Bring the application to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

 
                        Time frame to get the title: 5-7 Business Days
                        Cost to obtain: $20
 

 

 

• Mail the application to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

                        Time frame to get the title: 6-8 Weeks
                        Cost to obtain: $20

Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled outside of New York

    The registered owner of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled in.
